Child Rights Advocacy

Under this program, we involve local and religious leaders, parents/caregivers, teachers/school management committees and other stakeholders to increase access to child protection and justice for Orphans Vulnerable Children (OVC) and strengthen the capacity of families/household, caregivers and other service providers to protect and care for orphans and vulnerable children in the country.

Children worldwide go through a number of challenges ranging from child sacrifice, sexual abuse/defilement/rape, over beating, child labour, denying them food, child neglect, early marriage and other forms violence.

Although there is a law against children rights in the country the punishments is still not heavy to stop and defend the vice, we continue to see acts of child abuse and violence of human rights taking place and sometimes the perpetrators go unpunished.

Violence against Children Survey plays a crucial role in fulfilling these commitments by bringing into the light the problem of VAC in Uganda, revealing for example that 1 in 3 girls suffer sexual violence during their childhoods and 7 in 10 boys suffer physical abuse. The consequences of this violence on its survivors is devastating, increasing such negative outcomes as mental distress, sexually transmitted infections, and contemplation of suicide. Indeed, violence against children infects the entire society. If sexual violence against girls is allowed to continue, stemming the spread of HIV and AIDS and teenage pregnancy will be all more difficult to avert. Moreover, if children are vulnerable to violence in school, the goal of properly educating all Ugandan children will be compromised “According to the Ministry of Gender, Labour and social development” (VAC Survey August 2018)

Our campaigns against child abuse and all forms of violence will continue in school, churches and in communities until these crimes reduce and stop.
